Bergamo-Brescia 2023 Italian Culture Capital

07-02-2023

Bergamo-Brescia 2023 Italian Culture Capital

A project that wants to rediscover Beauty after the violent impact of the pandemic.

As testimony to the will of Rebirth and the recognition of the importance that Culture covers as engine of renewal.

A recognition to the history, the artistic and cultural heritage and the ability to regenerate, to actively project itself into a present made of construction, work, solidarity and innovation.

For the first time, since the title Italian Capital of Culture was established, two cities, found united in the desire to «Grow Together », give life to a single Capital. A unique city that is not limited to the simple algebraic sum of the two cultural productions, but launches an image of "possible and future" urban space that can unify its extraordinary manufacturing capacity, the traditional ability and discipline of work, the entrepreneurial vocation, but also networks of solidarity and cultural heritage of unique importance on an international scale, exchanging good practices, finding synergies, accelerating processes and sharing knowledge.

Maybe you didn't know...

The name BARRA derives from one of the first names of the city of Bergamo. Particular reference is made to the hypothesis of the Bergamo historian Bortolo Belotti(1) who compared the toponym to pre-Celtic names, such as precisely Barra, which would have been followed by the name Bèrghem, of which Bergomum would constitute the latinisation.

(1) Bortolo Belotti ( Zogno, August 26, 1877 - Sonvico, July 24, 1944) was an Italian politician, historian and jurist. He was also a refined poet and he is considered one of the most representative figures of the 20th century in the Brembana Valley. Bortolo Belotti owes his fame above all to the “History of Bergamo and the Bergamaschi”, the most important treatise on the history of Bergamo and its province
